Field Trip: Module C Week 2

Field Trip to the Natural History Museum – this forthcoming* Tuesday!

When? Tuesday, March 7th (next week!)

• First Tuesdays of the month are free!

What time? ~10:20am-1:30pm

• We will leave at the end of 1st period after a vocabulary lesson.

Where? 900 Exposition Park Dr. (by USC)

How much? Admission is FREE; Metro is $1.75 per ride ($1 for TAP card); UBER is ~ $2.50 if 4 people split a ride

• I will be taking the subway. Join me! 🙂

Why? Our reading chapter for week 2 is “Geology: What caused the extinction of the dinosaurs?”.

• Our vocabulary chapter for week 1 was “Environmental Science” & our listening chapter for week 1 was “Dinosaurs: Why did they disappear”.

*I used our vocabulary word (“forthcoming”) from this week, but a much more natural word would be “upcoming” as in, this “upcoming Tuesday”. What’s the difference? Click here.

1. Vocabulary: Writing
   • Prompt: pg. 172 “7B Paragraph Writing: 2.“
   • Type a one-page response (double-spaced).
     • Use MLA Format.
   • E-mail it to sgardiner@columbiawestcollege.edu as a .doc file OR type it in Google Docs and “share” it with me.
2. Reading: Chapter 9 Reading One
   • B. Reading Strategy (pg.240-241)
   • Active Reading (pg. 241-243)
     • Active reading means not just passively reading; it means taking notes, looking words up in the dictionary, thinking about what you’re reading, asking questions as you read, etc.
   • Comprehension A & B (pg. 243-244)
3. Get your books!
   • Anyone without a vocabulary and/or reading textbook on Monday will be sent to talk to the CAO after class.
